Choose your Spanish ibex hunting experience

The Spanish ibex is one of the most recognisable species in Spanish mountain hunting. Choosing a stalking experience requires more than comparing a photograph: the type of animal, terrain and contracted services must be defined before your trip.

Management or trophy: clarify what you are booking

Offers may distinguish management, representative or trophy animals. Not all outfitters use the same categories or pricing system. Each trophy variety also has different measurements and scoring thresholds for official trophy assessment. A gold-medal trophy in Ronda is not the same as one in Gredos, and hunting in Beceite differs from hunting in Granada.

Plan a day in the mountains

The duration of the outing and the effort involved depend on the estate and its access routes. Ask about elevation gain, walking distances and arrangements for companions. A local guide helps you understand the day but does not remove the demands of the terrain. Check that your rifle is correctly zeroed so you do not waste the limited opportunities for a shot.

The Spanish ibex is a species found nowhere else in the world. Its four hunting varieties make up the Spanish Ibex Grand Slam. The south-eastern or Granada variety is the most widespread, with hunting areas extending from northern Jaén and the Sierra de Segura to near Ronda, which is home to another distinctive variety.
